TURKEY: ANKARA AND THE BLACK SEA COAST

After spending little time in the west of Turkey we continue to discover the capital of Turkey and the less travelled Black Sea Coast. This way we try to avoid the heat of the Mediterranean and still visit the north of Turkey before it’s getting too cold.

EXPLORING GREECE: THE NORTHWEST

In this blog post, we’ll talk about our journey across the eastern part of mainland Greece. In roughly ten days we made our way to the border with Turkey. On the way, we took in as much as possible, exploring archeological sites, enjoying beaches and climbing in the mountains.

GREECE: PART ONE

In the course of three weeks, we explored Greece. We were delighted that Greece still boasts of a lot of untouched nature, making it an awesome destination for exploring off the beaten path.

PORTUGAL: FOLLOWING THE COAST ALL THE WAY UP

Soon after the ferry to Spain we made our way to Portugal. Even during this difficult travel time, Portugal has stayed open and found a good compromise between safety precautions and enabling tourism. Having already visited Porto and Lissbon, we were excited to see more of Portugal and explore its coast. ALGARVE Although many places in the Algarve are touristic there are still a few remote beaches and with COVID going on we were lucky to experience fewer tourists as usual. Our trip through the Algarve started on July 8. After a quick visit to Tavira, we drove on to…

JULY: FINALLY FREE AGAIN

We made a run for it. Shortly after our last blog post and the hundred days celebration we took our chances to get out of Marrakech and into Zone 1. Our journey finally continues outside the 5km radius of Marrakech.

WEEK 13-19: HUNDRED DAYS STUCK

Hundred Days. TWO-THOUSAND-FOUR-HUNDRED hours. That’s how long we’ve now been stuck in this campground in Marrakech. If all goes well, we will not stick around much longer, so we thought it's time to start blogging again. CAMP LIFE SINCE OUR LAST POST Over the last weeks, we led a regular life on the campground with all its ups and downs. Across language barriers and age gaps we formed new friendships and despite some repetition in the conversational topics (weather and lockdown rumours are high on the list), we had some great days and evenings. Most of the time we kept…

WEEK 11/12: SUMMER VIBES

Time flies by and we’re getting closer to being 2 months on the same campsite. I expected to celebrate my birthday somewhere in West Africa, but here we are… This post will be another challenge in not becoming trivial and not repeating ourselves, but such is the sedentary life: dominated by routine.

WEEK 9 / 10: WHERE DID THE TOUR GO?

As the lockdown continues this blog continues without the “on Tour” part of its name. Therefore we decided to keep the bi-weekly rhythm for now. Little has significantly changed since the conclusion from our last post. That’s both great as well as disappointing. This post might be a little more philosophical than the past, but hey, we have time...

WEEK 6: MOROCCAN ROUTINES

And so it begins… Confinement. We left our secure home to travel, experience new places and meet new people with their own way of living. Whether we make it to South Africa or not was unsure form the beginning, but trying it and exploring this unknown was all the appeal.

WEEK 5: STUCK IN MOROCCO

This week consisted of fixing our first problem (tires) and then being caught in the global pandemic of COVID-19. We arrived Sunday afternoon in Marrakech and except for supermarkets and hospitals (we’ll come to that later), we have not yet seen much of the city.
