TANZANIA II: OFF TO THE COAST
In this post we explore the island of Zanzibar and the coast of Tanzania during the winter of 2020.
In this post we explore the island of Zanzibar and the coast of Tanzania during the winter of 2020.
We left Kenya early to join a pre-Christmas safari with my brother who came from Switzerland to Tanzania. Overall we spent a bit more than a month in Tanzania exploring not only the vast savannas of the north but also the awesome beaches and the island life of Zanzibar.
After spending little time in the west of Turkey we continue to discover the capital of Turkey and the less travelled Black Sea Coast. This way we try to avoid the heat of the Mediterranean and still visit the north of Turkey before it’s getting too cold.
In this blog post, we’ll talk about our journey across the eastern part of mainland Greece. In roughly ten days we made our way to the border with Turkey. On the way, we took in as much as possible, exploring archeological sites, enjoying beaches and climbing in the mountains.
We made a run for it. Shortly after our last blog post and the hundred days celebration we took our chances to get out of Marrakech and into Zone 1. Our journey finally continues outside the 5km radius of Marrakech.
Time flies by and we’re getting closer to being 2 months on the same campsite. I expected to celebrate my birthday somewhere in West Africa, but here we are… This post will be another challenge in not becoming trivial and not repeating ourselves, but such is the sedentary life: dominated by routine.
As the lockdown continues this blog continues without the “on Tour” part of its name. Therefore we decided to keep the bi-weekly rhythm for now. Little has significantly changed since the conclusion from our last post. That’s both great as well as disappointing. This post might be a little more philosophical than the past, but hey, we have time...
We spent the last 14 days staying on the campground. No shopping trips, no other big adventures, just daily life in a camper van. Combined with a headache in the first days of week 8 we decided to merge two blog posts into one.
And so it begins… Confinement. We left our secure home to travel, experience new places and meet new people with their own way of living. Whether we make it to South Africa or not was unsure form the beginning, but trying it and exploring this unknown was all the appeal.
We're currently stuck in a campsite in Marrakech. All is good though :-) This gave us some time to work on the videos we took since the start of our adventure... Find the first result about our time in Switzerland here.
This week we made our way across the Mediterranean sea and into Morocco, where we made drove our first kilometres in Africa. A truly enjoyable experience.
We spent the whole second week exploring central Spain. From Saragossa, we made our way via Madrid, Toledo, Granada, Cordoba all the way to Sevilla. A week full of contrasts, sunshine and general good vibes, only interrupted by the occasional tiny city center roads in medieval towns.
Before we were able to start on our adventure, we had to get ready. In the weeks leading up to our departure, our to-do list was packed, but there was one dominating item which was only remotely connected to the trip itself: getting married.
Our journey is accompanied by our trusted car. We bought it 2 years ago with this trip in the back of our heads. We were torn between a more standard bus and a 4wd. The thought of travelling for thousands of kilometres, only to be stuck a few before an amazing sight made us pick the pricier 4wd option.
“What’s the route?” is the first question most people ask. “Depends”, I normally answer. There’s a huge amount of factors playing a role when it comes to our Route. A detailed route for 2 years would be beside the point anyway. This trip is vague on purpose. We’ll take the time to stay where we want to stay.
After 11 years being together we will embark on yet another adventure. Since the beginning of our relationship we share the passion of traveling. This post shares some of the highlights regarding our travels. It's definitly not an exhaustive list.
Hello, nice to have you here! Most likely you already know us. In case you don’t, this is the page, where we introduce ourselves. We keep it brief. Following “Let actions speak for themselves” I’m convinced that our travel accounts will make this page obsolete.
